                               ~ Signature Scent, by Dana

“California Sunshine” is Forbidden Leaf’s Signature Scent. Created by me, Dana L. Dwight, Founder of Forbidden Leaf Hemp Seed Oil Lotion & Soap Co.

It is a scent carefully crafted with specific essential oils to enhance a positive mood or to lift spirits.

…Throughout my life Art & Cannabis has ALWAYS helped me get through the tough times. I am so eternally grateful for one of Earth’s most precious healing plants and for the gift of being a creative.

After the death of my Mother, Spike to terminal lung cancer in 2004, my boyfriend and our 5 kids moved up to the mountains of Warner Springs, Ca in Chihuahua Valley. It was during that summer of 2007 that ALL of the children (6) had grown up and ventured out on their own and my boyfriend of 13 years and I were drifting apart and breaking up.

Quite often I found myself all alone up in those mountains with nothing but my computer that thankfully had internet, Illustrator and photo shop downloaded on it, I also had access to15 acres on a mountain top with lots of sunshine, rich soil, well water and fresh air to grow weed on (I grew Headband Kush), I had the friendship and company of a wolf dog named “Tonka”, two poodles named “Nani” & “Cujo”, a chow mix dog named “Kiyah”  and a pit bull named “Chico”.

I’ve had health issues since the age of 8 that became severe at age 19. Unfortunately I was misdiagnosed for 13 years and during those years I was overprescribed antibiotics which now has wreaked havoc my immune system.

Two years after having surgery for cancer and surviving cancer I was sent to a specialist at UCSD Medical Center in San Diego that diagnosed me with severe “Interstitial Cystitis” - I had a very painful hunner’s ulcer on my bladder wall at the time when I was finally diagnosed. I was then prescribed a plethora of medication and given paperwork on how to apply for SSI and sent home.

My primary care Doctor urged me to start taking Effexor XR because she thought I was starting to suffer from depression from the stress in my personal life as well as my recent diagnosis, I listened to all of my Doctor’s at that time and I took ALL of my prescribed medications.

I soon became like a complete zombie, I couldn’t even get out of bed in the morning any longer to take the kids to school, I had no energy, I started developing “sleep paralysis” which was absolutely terrifying.

After awhile I couldn’t handle the side effects of these medications, especially the Effexor XR so I decided to get off of them. I remember the Doctor telling me that there way no way for me to successfully get off of the Effexor XR, he said that I would become suicidal, most people do and that I will have to take it for the rest of my life.

I became even more determined than ever.

The internet allowed me to explore and research Holistic Medicine including the benefits of Cannabis (other than smoking it) and Hemp (Hemp Seed Oil) which my Mother and I discovered as a nutritional supplement in Bellingham, Wa  after her cancer diagnosis.

(What I did was extremely dangerous and not suggested. This is my own personal journey that I’m sharing that ties into creating my signature scent for Forbidden Leaf.)

Desperately wanting to get off of Effexor I thought that I could just “wean” myself off by opening the capsule and taking some of the tiny balls away, more and more with each passing day but that doesn’t work. It was all or nothing.

The side effects from withdrawing off of this drug was HORRORIFIC to say the least, honestly I can’t believe they prescribe this stuff and furthermore they don’t even warn you that trying to withdrawal from it is nearly impossible, it’s like a trap drug.

The pain that I endured in my head was sharp and stabbing, I had brain zaps, vision problems, my equilibrium was off (and still is to this day), I cried all of the time, I had no energy.

Smoking cannabis, drinking a ton of lemon water, eating well, sleeping, going on a daily hike with the dogs and just hanging in there after about a year I started to feel better.

With feeling better and the discovery and healing benefits that I received from “cold pressed” hemp seed oil during all of that time (it cleared up my psoriasis for the first time in my life) I started to work and create with hemp seed oil  lotion and soap bases, I utilized my basic graphic design skills and played with logo design on my laptop.

I began wanting  to help bring back and share the healing and nutritional benefits of this amazing hemp seed oil that I discovered with my Mom, the “forgotten oil” . I also wanted to create a scent that was “uplifting, happy & cheerful,” a scent that draws you in and lifts you up, one that makes you smile like a bright sunny day in Southern California!!

That’s what  “California Sunshine” scent does for most people.

For those who don’t like the fruity, floral scent, I created earthy, natural scents such as Lavender, Papver (Opium Poppy) & Citrus/Basil.

It took two years of Research & Development &  trial and error and literally buckets of lotion before I knew this essential oil blend was “the one.”

Made with pure intentions & love.

Rose Oil -

Rose oil boosts self-esteem, confidence, and mental strength while efficiently fighting depression. They can be very helpful in driving away depression and anxiety. As an antidepressant, rose oil can be given to patients with acute depression or those undergoing rehabilitation to bring positivity into their lives.

*I’ve always loved the scent of roses. In high school I was drawn to essential oils and would often wear rose, sandalwood or musk from Spiritual Sky. My favorite roses are The Angel Face Rose and the Damascus Rose.

I turned 12 in Tangiers, Morocco and always dreamed of going back to the “Vallée des Roses”, as it’s known in Morocco. They have a huge floral festival there!

Sweet Orange -

The very smell of orange essential oil reminds you of happy moments and brings pleasant thoughts to mind. That is why this oil is frequently used in aromatherapy. It creates a happy, relaxed feeling and works as a mood lifter, which is perfect for people who suffer from depression or chronic anxiety.

*The scent of sweet orange and pink grapefruit always bring back fond memories for me of warm, summer days growing up in Ventura County near citrus groves and also living on a 5 acre grove of oranges and pink grapefruit in Fallbrook, Ca. We brought my Mother home to this house from Bellingham, Wa after her cancer diagnosis for the last 7 months of her life, the scent from the blossoms during the summer of 2004 was something we all thoroughly enjoyed. It was very special and uplifting during those days.

Pink Grapefruit -

Grapefruit essential oil has an uplifting and relaxing effect on the mind. It induces positive feelings of hope, helps cure depression and relieves anxiety and stress. This effect comes from its aroma, and due to its stimulating effects on certain hormones that uplift the mind.

Mango -

This magnificent essential oil bursts with the irresistible sweet tropical aroma scent of fresh mango, uplifting tropical scent.
